GOT BAG
GOT BAG‘s mission is to actively fight the advancing plastic pollution of our oceans together with their partners and to encourage a more conscious use of natural resources.
Therefore, in 2022 they have accomplished a lot together with the GOT BAG community. We expanded our clean-up activities and joined forces with various initiatives to protect the oceans.
CLEAN-UP PROGRAM
With our clean-up program on the Indonesian island of Java in Demak, Jepara, and Bantul, involving 17 actively collecting communities, we continuously expand the capacity and monthly amount of plastic collected. This ecological commitment brings several advantages: Firstly, it prevents plastic waste from floating in the sea and reaching the ocean by collecting it in coastal and mangrove areas. Secondly, the waste is utilized as a recyclable and useful resource. We now operate the GOT BAG Indonesia Foundation, leading the clean-up program.
THE BAGS
Their products are made from existing resources as an alternative to conventional backpacks and bags made from new plastic. The product design emphasizes functionality, timelessness and enhancing durability. They provide a two-year warranty and repair products within this time to extend their use!
CORAL GARDENERS
Together with our GOT BAG community, we adopted 1,787 corals. Healthy coral reefs are essential for the survival of hundreds of species of fish and other marine life. However, these have been dying worldwide on a large scale due to rising water temperatures and pollution. Coral Gardeners therefore grow our adopted corals on ropes in underwater stations in French Polynesia for one to two years until they can be replanted on a reef.
FROM TRASH TO TREASURE
-
Plastic
The GOT BAG Indonesia foundation operates a clean-up program that collects ocean-impacted plastic from
coastal areas, rivers, and the ocean.
-
Recycling
The PET portion is sorted and processed into pellets. All other mechanically recyclable plastic types are directed to suitable recycling
solutions whenever possible. Non-recvclable plastic is sent for
energy recovery.
-
Yarn
The pellets from the clean-up program
are combined with pellets from our Ocean Bound Plastic certified
recycling partner for yarn production. This results in recycled polyester yarn, which serves as the main material for
all GOT BAG products.
-
Bag
The finished products are transported by ship to Europe and the USA and then delivered to GOT BAG customers using carbon-neutral shipping
methods.
