Jonsen Island
THE ORIGINS
The history of the JONSEN ISLAND brand begins in 2008 in Oceanside in southern California. While visiting yet another factory, Thomas Cantoni discovers on an old surfboard a worn sticker representing an octopus, on which we read:
JONSEN FACTORY, TAILOR SURFTRUNK - 1973, CALIFORNIA
This detail strikes him, "Jonsen" being also the maiden name of his mother of Scandinavian origin. Created in the 1970s by a Norwegian who loves the Californian way of life, this artisan brand has since been forgot.
ECO-RESPONSIBLE APPROACH
JONSEN ISLAND products are mainly produced in limited and numbered series, in an artisanal way, by favoring clean and traceable manufacturing channels. We want to offer buyers a unique product with an inimitable style. Anxious to favor a short circuit and local productions, JONSEN ISLAND makes his swimsuits in one of the last workshops in Marseille, France. For the production of his t-shirts and sweatshirts, JONSEN ISLAND has established a partnership with him, a manufacturer in Portugal, and his productions are based on organic cotton.
THE BRAND STORY
After filing the brand name in 2009, illustrator Thomas Cantoni redesigned his new logo. Some prototypes of tshirts will be serigraphed in a confidential manner and sold spontaneously through the surf & paddle club of William Wustenberg, local figure of surfing in the Mediterranean, longtime friend of Thomas, quickly become an indispensable partner.
In 2015, JONSEN ISLAND became more professional. Nicolas Grasset, network and communication man and Serge Bordonaro in style, embark on the ship to allow the brand to resurface thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. This adventure is above all the story of a friendship between four passionate and complementary men, who, thanks to their know-how, are committed to creating a reference brand for all lovers of the sea.
SPORTS INVOLVEMENT
Incentive and dynamic, the JONSEN ISLAND brand is concretely involved in the world of hexagonal surfing, in particular through the club of William Wustenberg (co-founder of the brand) which promotes the practice of surfing, body boarding, and booths. -up paddle in the Mediterranean.
